Qualification of items not included in the Standard

Hi to All
product qualification for ESD items not mentioned in ansi esd 20.20 2021 could be tested in current environmental conditions. ? at this enviroment could be certified or needs to be submitted to controlable enviromental to 48 Hrs.
regards.

If an ESD control item is not listed in ANIS/ESD S20.20, then a qualification plan would need to be developed by the user. It would be best to take into account the worst case enviromental conditions as part of the that qualificaiton. While limits and test methods may not exsist, the qualification should still be done at the lowest RH of the facility.
Can you share and example of an ESD control item that is not part of ANSI/ESD S20.20

as example an antistatic lamp to use in a workstation. datasheet only especify it is ESD but does not mention resistance and voltage decay, in case we buy it we need to qualificate the lamp, then wich standard could we use to validate the lamp?

Im not familar with an antistatic lamp, however if this is just a lamp used at a workstation there are a couple of things that can be done. The easiest of course would be to ensure that the lamp is at least 300 mm away from any ESD senstivie item. Then qualificaiton and compliance verification would not need to be done.
If it is close, handle the lamp as in normal production and see if the lamp creates any fields that could pose a theat. See the insulator section of ANSI/ESD S20.20.
The resistance to ground could be measured. I would take a lamp and measure it while plugged in for resistance to ground. If it is less tha 1x10*9 ohms then I would consider it qualified.

Hello,
Greetings of the day to all ,from India

Well, if you are referring to hand tools mainly, viz.,hand tools, such as tweezers, pliers, screwdrivers, etc used.in electronics assembly, neither of the two ESD control program standard ANSI/ESD S20.20 nor IEC 61340-5-1 define any requirements for the same. On this topic you may please watch the recorded version of a Tech talk 11-14-23 Emerging Professionals Tech Talk: ESD Characterization of Non-Powered Hand Tools on the ESDA site at www.esda.org .
ansi esd 20.20 does not have any mention except for the Soldering iron.

Of course, I have seen in the Indian market too some suppliers offering ESD safe table top magnifiers / Hand held magnifiers / Table lamps etc . with ESD powder coated body /frame. since these are not specified seperately in the S 20.20 or IEC 61340-5-1, as our ESDA’s Sr. expert Mr. John K has mentioned, the resistance to ground could be measured from the body of that fixture or item which should be less than 1x10*9 to consider it qualified.

Thank you
