Good morning. Greetings
In the ANSI ESD S20.20 standard in section 7.3 product qualification plan, it mentions that a product qualification plan must be established for tables 2, 3 and 4, one of the elements is ESD protective gowns and we comply with that.
The question is: would the same or similar products have to be qualified, such as protective covers for cars, covers for ESD storage chargers, hair caps, etc.?
Will the technical sheet be sufficient for a recertification audit process?
Jgarcia4,
ANSI/ESD S20.20 only requires that you have a product qualification plan for those items in tables 2, 3, and 4 that you decide to include in your ESD program. If you have other ESD control items not specifically listed in ANSI/ESD S20.20, you are not required to list them in your ESD control plan. The biggest reason for this is there are no standard test methods that would apply for these other items. You could certainly come up with your own standard test method and limits if you feel it is necessary, but it would not be required per ANSI/ESD S20.20.
While Andy is techncially correct, I would list everything that is used in your ESD control plan. A typical item that is not in ANSI/ESD S20.20 that are used are gloves and finger cots. If they do not have a requirement in ANSI/ESD S20.20 then you need to come up with a qualification of your own.
For example, if you are using gloves in your process, it makes intimate contact with the product. In this case, an assessor may ask if the glove is a risk to the product. If there is data to show that it is resistive or non charging, this could be used as objective evidence that the item does not pose a risk to an ESD sensitive item. If there is no data, then an assessor could ask if the glove was an insulator and treat it as such. Having data proactivley will be better.
The way the qualification is define would not come into question as it is not in ANSI/ESD S20.20. But if you have data, even simple resistance data, that should be sufficent.
