Product qualification for Flooring

Hello Team,

Can we tailor product qualification for Flooring (from table 3, STM7.1) when we don’t know 100% sure what kind of tile was installed (old building with pre-existing tile) based on the fact that Footwear/Flooring system Internal Product Qualification was performed and is within the limits?

Thank you

Santiago,

If you performed your internal product qualification of the flooring per ANSI/ESD STM7.1 at the lowest annual humidity, then you shouldn’t need a tailoring statement at all since ANSI/ESD S20.20 allows this. Also, if you have a year’s worth of compliance verification information on the floor, you could use that as your product qualification per ANSI/ESD S20.20

@AndyN,

My question goes when I do the product qual for Footwear/Flooring system with 97.1, can I tailor 7.1 Flooring? based on the fact that my floor was qualified already (with footwear). Because from what I see, 97.1 is way more robust than 7.1. That’s my question.

Thanks

Santiago,

I don’t believe that will work. The flooring needs to be qualified separately per ANSI/ESD STM7.1 (or the year’s worth of compliance verification data) as well as to ANSI/ESD 97.1 & 97.2 in combination with footwear. The footwear also all needs to be qualified to ANSI/ESD STM9.1.

I see your argument that the ANSI/ESD STM97.1 testing is more robust than STM7.1. I think the reason for complying with both STMs includes that the flooring can also be used for grounding other ESD control items like mobile equipment and shelving as well as it is a basis for the future compliance verification tests
