New ESD Standard Test Method

Hi Sir/Madam,

What would be the recommended period for manufacturer to implement and comply to the new released standard or STM after it was being released? Would be much appreciated for your input on this.
Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

All of our standards and standard test methods, when released, become current and the standard or standard test method that is being replaced is withdrawn. There is no explicit time frame to implement the new standard or standard test method but users and manufacturers are expected to use the new methods as soon as possible.

The one exception is ANSI/ESD S20.20. This standard usually has a break in period. If as planned, ANSI/ESD S20.20 is released this year it will be ANSI/ESD S20.20 - 2021. The current standard ANSI/ESD S20.20 - 2014 will also be available for a period of time. For certification, if ANSI/ESD S20.20 - 2021 gets released, then in 2022, facilities will be able to obtain certification to either ANSI/ESD S20.20 - 2014 or ANSI/ESD S20.20 - 2021. In the year 2023, facilities will be certified to ANSI/ESD S20.20 - 2021.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to append this discussion.

Hello John,

When there is a change in the standard revision, will there be any notification (eg. blog post, newsletter etc.) to trigger the user on the release of the new standard?

If you have a subscription service, the new standard will be sent to you. If not, there are notifications on various social media such as LINKEDin. Just follow the ESD Association.
