We have a cleanroom where operators work in a seated position and must remain grounded. However, wrist straps require direct skin contact, which would expose skin inside the cleanroom and violate protocol. How can operators be properly grounded while fully covered in cleanroom garments?
There are several options that I can think of and possibly more that I don’t know.
One, use a groundable static control garment system which has a wrist strap built into the garment itself. This system is typically connected to the garment and the cuff will be the connection to the person.
Second, in our clean room, the wrist strap was placed on the persons wrist. Then the glove was placed over the wrist strap and the hand. The wrist strap cord was then snapped to the wrist strap where it would cause a break in the glove to make the connection. The break in the glove was small and the body was not exposed.
In either case, the wrist strap test was used to ensure the connections were made.
