Garment: ESD Coat vs ESD T-shirt

In the company where I work (SMT Process), we are studing to change the ESD Garment used:

→ ESD Coat long-sleeved to ESD T-shirt short-sleeves.

Questions:

1- Can ESD-STM2.1 be used as a standard to validate ESD T-shirt?
2- Is there any contraindication for using ESD T-shirt instead of ESD Coat?

Hello,

Yes, ANSI/ESD STM 2.1 can still be used to qualify and test T-shirts.

There should be no contraindications for the use of T-shirts as long as the personal are grounded.

Hello,

What about technical cleanliness? if you will be using ESD t-shirt (probably with high proportion of cotton + carbon fibers) it may be a problem.

Hello,
Sorry, I am new in this field. Do you mean we can use ESD t-shirt instead of Coat in the production line? for example for Hand soldering job?

Good question, but first I would like to ask if an ESD garment is even necessary. Understand what a garment will do for you and then select the correct garment. There are no requirements on what a garment looks like. If a t-shirt fills the need then it is ok to use. The standard give the electrical requirements but not what the garment needs to look like.
