Do clients who place ESDS items on shelves or mobile equipment with an ESD protective covering or packaging need to comply with the requirements shown on Table 3 for shelving or mobile equipment?
An unprotected ESDS item is defined in ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021 as “Any ESDS item without ESD protective packaging or coverings.” When shelving or mobile equipment is used to store unprotected ESDS items it must meet the requirements of Table 3, however if the shelving or mobile equipment is used to store protected ESDS items the shelving or mobile equipment does not need to meet the requirements as the ESD protected packaging is controlling the risk.
