ESD Smock - Cover Their Hair

Does A Person Wear ESD Smock Need To Cover Their Hair In PCB Assembly Manufacturing Line?
Some Places Are Required To Fully Cover Their Hair, Some Places Not.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

There are no requirements on hair from an ESD point of view. There may be requirements from a contamination point of view.

Some of the reasons from an ESD perspective is the thought that hair is an insulator and could generate an electrostatic field. This may be the case but if the hair is kept 300 mm away or in the case of long hair, tied in the back of a person, should pose no threat.

Hi,
Is ESD smock really needed/required for PCB Assy/Test & Equipment manufacturer (using PCBA as part of the installation)?

Will it be a viable option to remove ESD smock in the processes while still keeping ESD compliance through other means such as ESD shoe? Thanks

ANSI/ESD S20.20 has many optional ESD control items in table 3. It is up to the user to determine the risk and controls that are required. Garments are one optional element that should be considered but it is not required.
However, if a garment is required by the organization (company), then the requirements in ANSI/ESD S20.20 shall be met.
