ESD Shoe Product Qualification

Hi There,

When a model change for ESD shoe happens, do we need to perform Product Qualification based on all these 3 specifications?

  1. ANSI/ESD STM 9.1
  2. ANSI/ESD STM 97.1
  3. ANSI/ESD STM 97.2

I assume item 1 needs to be provided by the shoe supplier and items 2 and 3 need to be done with my existing ESD floor. Pls kindly advice

Hello, I think I can break down this answer for you adequately per S20-20-2021.

Qualification requirements are identified in Table 2 for footwear and flooring in combination and yes you are correct that this would be done with your particular ESD flooring type(s) per 97.1 and 97.2 as both are required.

STM 9.1 however is identified in Table 3 and as per sect 8.3 are optional control methods. But as you are choosing to use footwear as a control item the testing in 9.1 is thus required as well. Your footwear vendor should be able to supply this data. However if they don’t, it will fall on you to provide these test results in addition to the other.
