Quick question: I have a PCB that is very delicate, and as extra care measure, our team decided to send this material to another location (outside our facilities) this way:
The material is first placed in a ESD dissipative cardboard (like a box) and then this dissipative box/cardboard is placed within an ESD bag (for ESD extra care and dust).
Does this setup possess an ESD risk?
Since both are being send outside facilities but only the bag is the outside layer, does only the bag needs the 12 and 50% test or both for RH?
Since these materials are going to an uncontrolled envioment, full testing needs to be done. If the primary packaging is the dissipitve box, it needs to be tested at 12% RH and 23C. If the ESD shielding bag is required for ESD protection, then the testing needs to be done in both enviroments.
A static shielding bag will pass through any humdity or it will dry out depending on the enviroment it goes through.
What needs to be determined is if the ESD bag is needed for protection or is is just additional packaging?
If for example, I had a conductive box on the outside with dissipitive foam on the inside, I would consider this as the primary ESD packaging and would not care what the next packaging was.
That is something that must be determined by you.
Hi, thanks for your feedback. In this case both will go to an uncontrolled environment (With the dissipative-cardboard box within the ESD bag as ESD Protection). In this case, the ESD product qual for the dissipative cardboard box was issued with ESD2020 Before 2014 (Product Qual only references the ESD test method), and the ESD Bag is fully tested. Is this scenario ok from a compliance perspective?
