ESD 20.20 vs IEC 61340 Product Qualification

Hi, I have this question:

What if I am only certified in ESD 20.20 and after requesting the DataSheet to check the Product Qualification, the test method is recalling the IEC standard? Is that valid for ESD? or does the Product Qualification has to call an ANSI/ESD test method?

Thank you very much,
Santiago

Hello,
Good morning /afternoon from India .
IEC 61340-5-1 is equivalent to ANSi/ESD S20.20 and both are for ESD control Program and certified by ESD Association for ESD facility certification.
But , what you have referred is IEC 61850 which is the international standard for defining devices within substation automation systems and how they interact with one another.

Good day

Thank you

Hello!

Thank you so much for the clarity!
And yes, correction: 61340*

Best regards!
Santiago

The 61340 series of test methods and the standard test methods from the ESD Association are technically equivant. Make sure you follow the low humidity requirements from the IEC specifications. Testing to either standard should be fine.

Thank you @JohnK ! I wanted to make sure that the IEC is also certified by the ESD Association!. :handshake:

The ESDA is the USA represntative to the IEC. The IEC committee, TC 101, works to keep the standards harmonized. Most of the IEC standards with relation to electronics can find the beginings at the ESDA.

Than you Mr. John K.
It is a solid clarification to one and all on the confusion between the two parallel ESD Global standards through ESDA
