Doubt for the Seated Personnel

For the seated personnel. In section 8.2, second paragraph, it mentions that personnel sitting at an ESD-protected workstation shall be connected to the grounding system via a wrist strap. Could you help confirm if it’s necessary to be connected even if the personnel are not handling ESD-sensitive components? That is to say, there is no risk to the product, but the personnel are sitting.

Israel,

Yes, if the personnel are not handling ESDS items they are not required to wear a wrist strap. The first paragraph of ANSI/ESD S20.20 section 8.2 says “All personnel shall be bonded or electrically connected to the selected grounding/equipotential bonding system when handling ESDS items.” Thus, if a person is not handling an ESDS item, they are not required to be bonded or electrically connected to a grounding/equipotential bonding system.

You would still want to consider how to prevent the situation where a person who is not grounded may forget and actually handle the ESDS items.

Andy,
Thank you very much for the confirmation and recommendation to prevent any risk.

Hello,
Greetings of the day to all from India .

The last para of Andy Sir is very true. “Prevention Is Better than cure”.
At times we may be handing both ESDS and non ESDS items together in the same place and by just ignorance we may invite the risk .
A planned ESD CONTROL PROGRAM is always an Insurance cover like the Insurance cover we take on ourselves and on our movable and immovable assets.

Thank you
