Do clients who use mobile equipment for the purpose of transportation but not as a working surface need to comply with Table 3 for mobile equipment?
It depends on what the client is placing on the mobile equipment (i.e., protected ESDS items or unprotected ESDS items). An unprotected ESDS item is defined in ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021 as “Any ESDS item without ESD protective packaging or coverings.” When mobile equipment is used to store unprotected ESDS items it must meet the requirements of Table 3, however if the mobile equipment is used to store protected ESDS items the mobile equipment does not need to meet the requirements as the ESD protected packaging is controlling the risk.
