Can a client limit the scope of ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021 Facility Certification to a specific operation (e.g., a PCBA SMT line) and exclude the other operations that are upstream and downstream of that process (e.g., receiving, assembly, and shipping)?
Per Section 7.1 of ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021, “The ESD control program plan shall identify the areas within the Organization that are a part of the overall ESD control program.” While it is common for organizations to exclude specific areas in their operations (e.g., research and development laboratories where no customer salable product is handled), it is not acceptable to exclude upstream and/or downstream processes that handle ESDS items that will be shipped to customers.
