ANSI/ESD STM 97.1 Temp and Humidity

Hello Team

Small question:
In 97.1 the standard calls out for this requirement:

Also, in the same standard, it calls out for this requirement:

and same here:

Could you please help me understanding what’s the meaning of “ambient” temperature? shouldn’t this simply just refer to the initial requirement? Im a little confused since it seems different.

Thank you!

In section 5.6 this is qualification testing done in a chamber or controlled enviroment.

For section 6.2.2.6 and 6.3.2.6 this can be done in the enviroment at an installed floor. The testing in 5.6 is done on a sample, the other testing can be done on the installed floor. Footwear might be changed after the intial qualification of the flooring/footwear system and this allows for it. .

Hi @JohnK thanks for answering,

I’m sorry, but I’m a little more confused, (it seems 5.6 applies for the entire document). and how can this be done in a chamber if this method is supposed to qualify footwear and flooring at the same time, and I can’t just imagine a person in a chamber doing this test (I know this is not the case).

So again, any datasheet from a chamber is not valid since the testing is performed with the person… could you elaborate please?

Thanks in advance! :100:

Santiago,

Ideally, a factory should test its footwear and flooring prior to installation in a walk-in chamber under the 12% humidity and 23 degrees C “Humidity Environment” (from section 5.6) according to section 6.1. For factories with floors already installed and not qualified, section 6.3 applies which should be done at ambient humidity and temperature (meaning you don’t need to change the humidity and temperature in the factory to do the test). For factories with qualified floors that need additional footwear qualified, section 6.2 applies and it also is done at ambient conditions

Section 5.6 is more a definition of what a “Humidity Environment” means when referred to in the document. Since it is only referred to in section 6.1, it only applies there. Sections 6.2 and 6.3 refer to testing being done at ambient conditions
